New Programmes of Education in Supportive, Palliative and End of Life Care - HE Level 6

Supportive, palliative and end of life care are an important part of the work of many professionals. These programmes of education are designed to assist you with your work and help you develop professionally and personally.

The overall aim of the programme is to provide professionals with modules of learning that develop skills, knowledge and attributes, which enhance professional practice.

Although the programme focuses on supportive and palliative care it is anticipated that you will be able to transfer what you have learned to any area of professional practice. Your new skills, intellectual and professional, should be widely applicable.

The modules of learning are designed to be flexible and meaningful, engendering an approach that accurately reflects the nature and practice of supportive and palliative care. You will be learning in an environment that is supportive of your personal and professional needs.

These modules of education are for staff working in health or social care who have contact with clients with palliative care needs and their families. Your learning needs and how these can be best matched to modules and pathways can be discussed with the teaching team before you start studying and at anytime during your learning journey.

The programme consists of individual modules of learning that can either be taken as one-off units of study or "built up" towards a BSc (Hons) Professional Studies in Supportive and Palliative Care. All the modules are validated by University of Bolton.

Each module is worth 20 academic credits at various levels, which are:

  • HE 5 (formerly level 2) = higher education level 5 - also known as diploma level
  • HE 6 (formerly level 3) = higher education level 6 - also known as advanced diploma or degree level.

On completion of one 20 credit module the following awards are made:

  • HE5 - Diploma in CPD
  • HE6 - Advanced Diploma in CPD

BSc (Hons) Professional Studies in Supportive and Palliative Care = 120 credits at HE6. You will need to complete specific compulsory modules to achieve the above award. Please ask for advice to meet your individual requirements.

Please note all modules will be mapped to Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) and Skills for Care Knowledge sets (National Occupational Standards) to assist you to meet your professional development needs.

We offer the following modules of learning in partnership with and validated by the University of Bolton:

Some of the modules are offered at HE5 and HE6 so you can select which is most appropriate for your needs. Please ask for guidance.
