Course Information

Symptom Control in the Last Few Days of Life
 
A one day study day, which helps practitioners to:
 
Recognise, reduce or alleviate patient's symptoms in the last few days of life.
Understand the perspective and experience of relatives and how best to support them.
 
Who is if for? Assistant Practitioners, Nurses, GPs, Medical Staff, Allied HealthProfessionals.
 
The day will be a mix of discussion, lectures & workshops and will include:
 
Frequency and occurrence of symptoms in the last few days of life.
Allowing a natural death - the process of dying.
The consequences of uncontrolled symptoms for the patient and their family.
Understanding and supporting relatives in last few days of patient's life.
How to manage common symptoms e.g. agitation, pain, vomiting, respiratory symptoms
 
The study day will be facilitated by specialist palliative care staff.
