Understanding Loss and Grief - Six Week Evening Course

Cost: £90 to external attendees. (This course is free to employees and counselling volunteers at St Luke's (Cheshire) Hospice, Winsford and £45 to other St Luke's (Cheshire) Hospice volunteers.)
Duration: 6 weeks Evenings - 5 February - 12 March 2013, 7pm-9.30pm

Course Information

 
  • Increase your insight in the experience of loss and grief during advanced life-threatening illness and bereavement
     
  • Increase your ability to have supportive conversations with patients and relatives who are stressed by impending and present losses
Raising your awareness of personal losses, your own way of grieving and how this may influence your contacts with grieving people.

Session 1 Loss – types / features / impact

 Grief expressions and coping styles
 

Session 2 Determinants of grief

 Impact of age, gender, culture

 

Session 3 Grief process – grief theories

 Grieving families
 

Session 4 Grief counselling skills and attitude

 Issues specific to early bereavement
 

Session 5 Embedding counselling in other caring roles

 Issues specific to anticipatory grief
 

Session 6 Spirituality and grief

 Professional loss and grief
 

Each session will be a mixture of

theory, practice and self reflection
